Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has responded to the Presidency over the controversy surrounding the alleged non-payment of dividends from Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), urging the Federal Government to concentrate on issues affecting Nigerians rather than engage in political exchanges.

Makinde’s response followed the Presidency’s reaction to his earlier claims concerning the handling of NLNG dividends and the money he said should have accrued to state governments.

The governor had raised concerns about the management of the proceeds, arguing that the funds could have provided significant financial support to states at a time when governments face growing demands for infrastructure, healthcare, education and other public services.

He also questioned the circumstances surrounding the reported delay in making the funds available to state governments, insisting that Nigerians deserved clarity on the matter.

In his latest response, Makinde maintained that attention should be directed towards providing explanations and addressing the substantive issues raised rather than allowing the controversy to become a political dispute.

The disagreement has generated debate over the management of public resources, transparency in government finances and the distribution of revenues that could benefit states across the federation.

The Presidency’s position and Makinde’s claims have placed the NLNG dividends issue at the centre of renewed discussions about accountability and the responsibilities of the Federal Government in managing funds involving public interests.
