Billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has shared a glimpse into his longstanding relationship with Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, revealing that the pair shared a bunk bed during their boarding school days 49 years ago.
Otedola made the revelation on Monday after hosting a dinner in honour of Hamzat, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.
In a post on X, the businessman described Hamzat as a man of integrity, saying their friendship over the years had given him first-hand knowledge of the deputy governor’s character.
According to Otedola, Hamzat’s conduct has consistently reflected honesty, sincerity, fairness and strong moral principles.
He also referred to Hamzat as the incoming governor of Lagos State, signaling his confidence in the deputy governor’s political ambition ahead of the 2027 election.
The dinner attracted other prominent Nigerian business leaders, including Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, and BUA Group chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu.
Hamzat, who has served as Lagos deputy governor since 2019 under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is seeking to succeed his principal when the latter’s tenure ends in 2027.
The event brought together a long-standing personal friendship and influential figures from Nigeria’s business community as political preparations for the next Lagos governorship election gather momentum.
