Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has declared that civil servants in the state have little reason to vote against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, citing his administration’s 13th-month salary package for workers.

Oborevwori made the remarks on Thursday in Asaba during the inauguration of the Delta State APC Campaign Council for the 2027 elections, where he unveiled “MORE Plus” as the theme of his re-election campaign.

Speaking at the event, the governor argued that the additional salary payment was a significant benefit that workers would consider when deciding which party to support at the polls.

“Today civil servants have no choice not to vote us. They have no choice. 13th month (salary) is huge, times two,” he said.

Explaining the arrangement, Oborevwori said eligible workers would receive an additional payment in December, describing it as a benefit covering political appointees, public servants and civil servants.

The governor urged members of the campaign council to take the APC’s message to communities across the state and mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu, himself and other party candidates.

He also called on party members to communicate the administration’s achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, workers’ welfare, youth empowerment and security.

Oborevwori maintained that the government’s record should form a central part of its campaign, adding that its achievements needed to be explained clearly to voters.

The inauguration was attended by APC leaders and political stakeholders, including Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, former Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa and Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo.

The comments have sparked debate over the relationship between public-sector welfare benefits and political support ahead of the 2027 elections. While the governor presented the salary package as a reason workers should support the APC, voting decisions remain the individual choice of eligible voters.

Delta State approved the institutionalisation of the 13th-month salary in July 2026, with plans to give the benefit legal backing through legislation.
