Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has clarified his political alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that voters in the state will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for president while backing Accord Party candidates for the National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections.

Adeleke made the clarification on Thursday, October 29, 2026, in Ede, Osun State, while inaugurating a campaign committee for the re-election of Senator Lere Oyewumi, who represents Osun West Senatorial District.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Kola Adewusi, said the arrangement was designed to prevent confusion among voters over the political coalition supporting Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

He stressed that the partnership with the All Progressives Congress (APC) was limited to the presidential election and would not extend to legislative contests.

“Let me state again that we are only going to vote for the All Progressives Congress in the presidential election only,” Adeleke said.

He added that the National and State Assembly elections would be contested under the Accord Party, urging supporters to remain focused on the party’s candidates.

Adeleke Dismisses Confusion Over ‘Rainbow Coalition’

The governor’s clarification comes amid discussions surrounding the proposed ‘Rainbow Coalition’, an initiative associated with efforts to mobilise political support for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Adeleke insisted that the alliance should not be interpreted as an agreement to surrender legislative positions to the APC.

His position follows rumours suggesting that political arrangements involving the governor and the Presidency could include the sharing of Senate, House of Representatives, State Assembly and local government positions between the two political camps.

Adeleke had previously dismissed claims of a seat-sharing agreement, describing reports of such an arrangement as fabricated.

He maintained that the coalition’s central objective was to secure Tinubu’s re-election, while candidates of the participating parties would remain free to compete for legislative seats.

The governor also said negotiations concerning the local government crisis in Osun were intended to protect the interests of the relevant stakeholders rather than facilitate a political sharing arrangement.

Governor Mobilises Support for Accord Candidates

During the event in Ede, Adeleke urged members of the campaign committee to work diligently towards securing Oyewumi’s re-election.

He praised the senator’s performance and described him as a capable representative whose record in office should strengthen his chances at the polls.

Oyewumi, who serves as the Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, expressed confidence that Accord would perform strongly in Osun, crediting Adeleke’s leadership for the party’s growing acceptance in the state.

The senator also pledged to pursue further development across Osun West, including improved roads, schools, healthcare facilities, access to clean water and solar-powered streetlights.

Adeleke’s Political Alignment Draws Attention

Adeleke’s position has attracted attention because he won re-election in Osun State on the Accord Party platform while maintaining support for Tinubu, whose presidential bid is under the APC.

The governor defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to Accord in December 2025.

His decision to support Tinubu nationally while campaigning for Accord candidates in legislative elections highlights the political calculations taking shape ahead of the 2027 polls.

For Adeleke, the message to voters is that support for Tinubu at the presidential level should not be mistaken for an endorsement of APC candidates across all other positions.

He has insisted that legislative contests remain open and that voters will ultimately determine who represents them.
