Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has reportedly directed his supporters to vote for candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2027 general elections.

The directive was disclosed by Hafsat Baba, the ADC North-West Vice Chairman, during a coalition meeting involving support groups loyal to the former governor in Kaduna State.

According to Baba, El-Rufai wants his supporters to back ADC candidates across all levels of government, including the presidential, governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections.

She explained that the meeting was organised to bring the various support groups together and coordinate their political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

Baba also revealed that the coalition planned to develop a database of El-Rufai’s supporters across Kaduna State and maintain regular engagements to strengthen grassroots mobilisation.

She said the groups remained committed to preserving the former governor’s legacy, particularly in education, healthcare and empowerment.

The ADC chieftain, however, raised concerns about insecurity in parts of Kaduna State, specifically mentioning Birnin Gwari, Giwa and Millennium City. She called on security agencies to intensify efforts to protect residents and their property.

Baba further alleged that security operatives had arrested more than 30 supporters of El-Rufai about two weeks before the meeting under circumstances she described as questionable.

She urged security agencies to remain neutral and perform their duties in accordance with the Constitution.

El-Rufai’s reported directive comes as political parties and influential political figures begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
