The Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN) has called on the Federal Government to increase funding for the poultry industry and take urgent measures to address the growing insecurity threatening farmers across the country.
The association warned that inadequate financial support, rising production costs and attacks on agricultural workers were putting pressure on the poultry industry and threatening Nigeria’s food security.
PAN stressed that farmers need a safer operating environment to sustain production, expand their businesses and contribute meaningfully to the national economy.
It expressed concern over the reported kidnapping of farmers, noting that insecurity in agricultural communities discourages investment and disrupts farming activities.
The association urged the government to strengthen security around farming communities and major agricultural locations, while ensuring that those responsible for attacks on farmers are brought to justice.
It also called for improved access to affordable financing, particularly for poultry farmers struggling with the high costs of feed, equipment, energy and other essential inputs.
According to the association, stronger government investment in the sector would help boost local production, reduce dependence on imported poultry products, create employment opportunities and improve the availability of affordable protein for Nigerians.
PAN maintained that the poultry industry has significant potential to support economic growth and national food security if the government provides the necessary financial and security support.
