The Nigerian Army has carried out another major reshuffle of senior officers, with Major General IA Ajose appointed as the new Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK).
Ajose is moving from the Department of Army Operations at Army Headquarters to take charge of the frontline command responsible for military operations in the North-East.
The latest postings affect several senior officers across operational commands, Army formations, Defence Headquarters, training institutions and other key appointments.
The Army said the redeployments were intended to strengthen operational effectiveness and ensure that officers with relevant experience and expertise are placed in strategic positions in response to the country’s changing security environment.
Ajose takes over the OPHK command from Major General AE Abubakar, who has been redeployed to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre, where he will serve as Dean of the Faculty of Operational Research.
The changes come as the military continues efforts to strengthen its operations in the North-East, where troops are engaged in ongoing counter-insurgency operations and efforts to protect communities and critical infrastructure.
The latest exercise is part of the wider leadership restructuring being undertaken under the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, as the Army seeks to improve command effectiveness and operational readiness.
The redeployment cuts across several areas of the service, including field operations, professional military education, civil-military affairs, logistics and financial administration.
The Army is expected to deploy the experience of the newly appointed commanders in addressing emerging security challenges across their respective areas of responsibility.
The appointment of Ajose to Operation Hadin Kai is particularly significant given the strategic importance of the North-East theatre and the continuing need for coordinated military operations in the region.
