Manchester United made a strong return to the UEFA Champions League on Thursday, recording a convincing 4-0 victory over Sabah FK at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils were among the teams to make an impressive start to the latest Champions League campaign, while Bayern Munich also produced a commanding performance. Italian side Como, meanwhile, marked their first appearance in the competition with an impressive 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig.

United Cruise to Comfortable Victory

Manchester United took control of their match after Matheus Cunha opened the scoring in the 27th minute following a cross from Patrick Dorgu.

Sabah had an opportunity to level the game when Joy-Lance Mickels found himself unmarked at the back post, but he headed wide from close range.

United eventually pulled away before half-time. Bruno Fernandes doubled their advantage before Benjamin Sesko added a third after racing onto a through ball from Bryan Mbeumo and rounding the goalkeeper.

Lisandro Martinez completed the scoring in the second half, reacting quickly to a loose ball after a corner situation.

With the result secured, manager Michael Carrick was able to introduce youngsters Harry Amass and Shea Lacey for their first Champions League appearances as United looked ahead to Sunday’s Manchester derby.

Bayern Put Five Past Bodo/Glimt

Bayern Munich also enjoyed a productive evening, defeating Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt 5-0.

The German champions were made to work for the breakthrough, with the first half ending goalless. Jamal Musiala eventually opened the scoring before Harry Kane doubled Bayern’s advantage with a header from a Michael Olise free-kick.

Alphonso Davies then found the net after Bodo/Glimt failed to properly clear an Olise corner.

Olise took centre stage late in the match, scoring twice to complete a memorable individual performance and round off Bayern’s five-goal victory.

The win was particularly notable for Kane and Olise, who had both been nominated for the 2026 Ballon d’Or earlier in the week.

Como Produce a Dream European Debut

Como celebrated their first Champions League appearance in style, defeating RB Leipzig 4-1 in Italy.

Martin Baturina, Tasos Douvikas and Assane Diao all found the net as Como established a commanding advantage.

Leipzig briefly threatened a comeback when Andrija Maksimovic reduced the deficit, but Maximo Perrone restored Como’s three-goal advantage late in the match.

The victory gave Cesc Fabregas’s side an impressive start to their European adventure and will provide the club with plenty of confidence going forward.

Other Results

Lens also produced a dramatic comeback to defeat 10-man Slavia Prague 3-2. The French side scored twice in stoppage time through Florian Thauvin and Ruben Aguilar after Slavia had twice taken the lead.

Elsewhere, Fenerbahce and Roma played out a 1-1 draw, while PSV Eindhoven and Shakhtar Donetsk also shared the points after a 1-1 draw.

With several teams already making strong statements, the opening round has provided an exciting start to the Champions League campaign.
