The Lagos State Government has advised motorists to use official online platforms to verify traffic tickets and check vehicle-related bills, following the circulation of fraudulent messages and links targeting road users.
The state Ministry of Transportation issued the advisory on Friday, warning motorists against clicking on suspicious links or providing personal and banking information through unverified platforms.
The ministry said motorists could independently verify alleged traffic violations through the Lagos State Traffic Management Solutions (TMS) portal.
To check a traffic ticket, motorists can search using their vehicle number and chassis number or enter the Violation Number (VN) displayed on the ticket.
The TMS platform allows motorists to confirm the status of traffic violations and access relevant information concerning processed offences.
How to Check Vehicle-Related Bills
Motorists seeking to verify vehicle inspection bills and other vehicle-related charges can use the official PAYVIS/PlateDetect platform.
Users can search by entering either their vehicle registration number or bill number to confirm outstanding bills and access available payment options.
The ministry also warned motorists to be cautious of websites and messages offering supposed discounts on traffic penalties.
It clarified that Lagos State does not offer discounts on traffic penalties, adding that statutory fines are fixed.
Government Warns Against Fake Links
The advisory followed reports of fraudulent SMS and WhatsApp messages in which scammers allegedly impersonate government agencies and inform motorists that they have committed traffic offences.
The ministry urged motorists not to click on links contained in unsolicited messages. Instead, they should manually access the official platforms and verify any alleged ticket or bill using their vehicle details.
The approved platforms are tms.lagosstate.gov.ng for traffic violations and payvis.ng for vehicle-related bills and payments.
Motorists requiring technical assistance with the TMS platform can contact its support team via 07000 TRAFFIC (07000 8723342) or the support email provided on the official portal.
The ministry urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious messages and payment requests to the relevant authorities.
