Troops of the Nigerian military’s Operation Fansan Yamma have rescued nine kidnapped victims and recovered 108 livestock during separate security operations in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The operations, conducted around the Danko general area, Sabon Tunga and Binoni communities, followed reports of suspected bandits abducting residents and rustling cattle.

The Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Tamuno Siniveie, disclosed the development in a statement on Thursday, November 5, 2026.

According to him, troops of Sector 2 received a distress call on November 3 reporting an attack by suspected bandits in the Danko general area.

The soldiers immediately mobilised to the affected location and engaged the suspected attackers, forcing them to flee and abandon their captives.

Two Kidnap Victims Rescued as Livestock Recovered

During the initial encounter, the troops rescued two victims identified as Barbuga Bawashe, 26, and Barka Dakaji, 61.

The military also recovered 34 cows and 74 rams, bringing the total number of recovered animals to 108.

The recovery represents a significant development in efforts to tackle cattle rustling, a criminal activity that has continued to affect rural communities across parts of north-western Nigeria.

Seven More Victims Escape From Captivity

In a related operation carried out on the same day, troops rescued seven additional victims from Sabon Tunga and Binoni villages.

The military said the victims had reportedly spent several months in captivity before escaping from their abductors amid sustained security operations in the area.

Those rescued were identified as Muhammad Dogonta, 60; Zakari Yahu, 32; Basara Sheu, 10; Adam Shehu, 12; Hatsat Umar, 14; Albaria Hamsu, 12; and Yehusa Lawali, 35.

The nine rescued victims from both operations have since been handed over to the District Head of Unashi for reunification with their families.

Military Calls for Public Cooperation

The military reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across its operational area, stressing that efforts to combat banditry and other criminal activities would continue.

It also urged residents to provide timely and credible information to security personnel to support operations against armed groups.

Kebbi and other states in Nigeria’s North-West have continued to face security challenges involving kidnappings, armed attacks and livestock theft.

The latest operation forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal networks, recover stolen property and improve security in affected communities.
