Kano Pillars technical adviser Daniel Ogunmodede has praised his players after they produced an impressive 4-1 victory over Doma United in Sunday’s Nigeria Premier Football League clash at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

The emphatic result ended Doma United’s perfect start to the 2026/27 campaign. The visitors had won their opening three matches without conceding before travelling to Kano, but Pillars handed them their first defeat of the season.

Abdullahi Musa put the hosts ahead in the 20th minute before Rabiu Ali doubled their advantage in the 33rd minute. Ali had earlier missed a penalty after Ahmed Musa was brought down inside the box.

Doma United responded after the break, with Sadiq Rilwan reducing the deficit in the 53rd minute to give the visitors hope of staging a comeback.

Kano Pillars, however, regained control as Ahmed Musa restored their two-goal advantage in the 77th minute before substitute Nasiru Salihu completed the scoring deep into stoppage time.

Ogunmodede said his team had anticipated a difficult encounter because of Doma United’s impressive start and used their preparation time effectively.

“We expected a tough game because they have gone three matches unbeaten with nine points and never conceded but we prepared very well for them,” Ogunmodede said, according to reports.

He added that having no fixture the previous weekend gave his squad additional time to study and prepare for the league leaders.

The Pillars coach also explained the tactical changes made after Doma United pulled a goal back.

According to Ogunmodede, the visitors’ second-half goal increased the pressure on his side, prompting him to introduce fresh players in midfield and attack to prevent Doma United’s defenders from building attacks from the back.

The victory leaves Kano Pillars unbeaten after their opening fixtures, while Doma United remain on nine points despite suffering their first loss of the campaign.

For Ogunmodede and his players, the result represents a significant response against one of the early pace-setters in the NPFL and gives Pillars renewed momentum as the season continues.
