Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo has expressed confidence that Enyimba can recover from their disappointing beginning to the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
The Aba-based giants suffered another setback on Sunday when newly promoted Inter Lagos defeated them 1-0 at the Enyimba Stadium, leaving the nine-time NPFL champions without a point after three league matches. Ezekiel Moses scored the decisive goal in the 18th minute.
The result means Enyimba have lost all three of their matches so far, with defeats against Niger Tornadoes, Doma United and Inter Lagos. They remain the only team yet to register a point in the 20-team league.
Despite the poor opening, Ojo believes the season is still at an early stage and that Enyimba possess enough quality to correct their mistakes and climb the table.
His comments come as pressure grows around the club following a run of results that has left the former champions at the foot of the standings.
Enyimba had hoped their first home fixture against Inter Lagos would provide an opportunity to kick-start their campaign after losing their opening two matches away from home. Instead, Moses’ 18th-minute header handed the visitors their first-ever victory in the NPFL and extended Enyimba’s difficult run.
The People’s Elephant will now have an immediate opportunity to respond when they host Sporting Lagos on Wednesday, September 23. The fixture is listed as a 4pm kick-off at the Enyimba Stadium.
With the season still in its early stages, Enyimba will be hoping a first victory can provide the spark needed to change the direction of their campaign.
