The family of late Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has spoken about the future of his multi-million-dollar estate, saying his children are the rightful beneficiaries of his wealth.
Chivayo died on September 30, 2026, alongside his wife, Lucy Muteke, after their helicopter crashed near Marondera, Zimbabwe.
Speaking at a condolence gathering at Chivayo’s residence in Harare, his uncle and family spokesperson, Herbert Chivayo, said the businessman had repeatedly expressed his wish for his children to inherit most of his wealth.
Herbert also dismissed concerns that members of the extended family could attempt to claim the late businessman’s assets, insisting that Chivayo’s children were the rightful beneficiaries.
The family further appealed to Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who was present at the gathering, to intervene if anyone attempted to challenge the children’s inheritance.
Chivayo was survived by two children from his previous relationship with Sonja Madzikanda, who attended the funeral gathering with the children.
However, the distribution of the estate could still involve legal and administrative processes. Chivayo had ongoing property-related legal matters before his death, while his estate will have to go through the formal process of administration before the assets can be distributed.
The family’s position, however, is clear: they want Chivayo’s children to receive the wealth he left behind and have pledged to protect their inheritance.
