The African Action Congress (AAC) has inaugurated its presidential campaign council for the 2027 general election, announcing plans to mobilize voters across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The party said the initiative would strengthen its preparations for the presidential contest involving its candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and running mate, Haruna Magashi.

In a statement issued on Friday, October 9, 2026, the party’s Acting National Chairman, Samuel Ajeigbe, and National Secretary, Oshiokhue Ikpeminoghena, said the council would coordinate political activities and expand the party’s reach across the country.

The campaign council will be headed by Abdullahi Usman as Director-General, with deputies responsible for Strategy and Political Affairs, as well as Diaspora and Resource Mobilisation. Juwon Sanyaolu will serve as secretary.

AAC Unveils Nationwide Campaign Structure

The party also announced the creation of 10 national directorates to oversee key areas of its campaign, including policy and strategy, grassroots mobilization, labour and civil society engagement, publicity, digital media, data and technology, election operations, finance, legal compliance and administration.

At the grassroots level, the structure will extend from state coordinators to local government areas, wards and polling units.

The AAC said the arrangement was designed to build a network of volunteers, canvassers, supporters and polling agents capable of engaging voters in both urban and rural communities.

The party also highlighted the role of its SOWORENOW application in coordinating supporters and managing digital mobilization.

According to the statement, the new campaign council would strengthen rather than replace the existing digital structure by combining online engagement with physical outreach and community-level organization.

‘2027 Is About Changing Nigeria’s Political Direction’

The AAC described the forthcoming election as an opportunity to reconsider the country’s political direction, arguing that the existing political order had failed to meet Nigerians’ expectations.

“The 2027 election is not merely about changing the occupant of Aso Rock; it is about changing the political direction of Nigeria,” the party stated.

It called on Nigerians who wanted a different approach to governance to participate actively in the campaign, stressing that political change required public involvement beyond the activities of politicians.

The inauguration marks another stage in the party’s preparations for the 2027 election, as political parties begin strengthening their organizational structures and outreach efforts ahead of the vote.
