The Federal Government has announced that 65 Nigerians currently in South Africa will return to Nigeria on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, as efforts continue to facilitate the safe and orderly return of Nigerian nationals from the country.
The returnees are expected to depart Oliver Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg, at 3:30 p.m. local time aboard South African Airways and arrive at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at about 8:45 p.m.
Private individuals sponsor latest return
According to information released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the latest return of the 65 Nigerians is being facilitated with financial support from private individuals.
The development highlights the role of individuals and other stakeholders in supporting Nigerians who require assistance to return home.
The Federal Government said it remains committed to protecting the welfare of Nigerians abroad and providing consular assistance to citizens facing difficulties outside the country.
Government urges Nigerians abroad to obey local laws
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reiterated its advice to Nigerians living or travelling abroad to comply with the laws of their host countries.
Nigerians who encounter difficulties or require consular assistance are encouraged to contact the nearest Nigerian diplomatic mission.
Nigeria maintains diplomatic representation in South Africa, including the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria and Consulate General offices, which provide services and support to Nigerian nationals.
