Wike Explains Why APC Included Him and Other Opposition Figures in Tinubu’s Campaign Council

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has explained why the All Progressives Congress included him and other politicians outside the ruling party in its campaign council for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, said the decision reflected Tinubu’s willingness to accommodate politicians from other parties who were prepared to support his bid for a second term.

He made the remarks on Tuesday during a media parley in Abuja, following the announcement of the APC’s revised presidential campaign council.

Wike: Tinubu’s Campaign Should Go Beyond APC

Wike said he believed Tinubu had recognised that support for his re-election could come from politicians who were not members of the APC.

According to the minister, the campaign structure was designed to bring together people willing to support the President’s continued stay in office, irrespective of their political affiliations.

He said the APC provided the platform through which Tinubu would contest the election, adding that supporters from other parties could still contribute to the campaign.

Wike maintained that the President’s re-election effort should not be restricted to APC members alone, arguing that politicians outside the ruling party could also support his ambition.

Wike, Adeleke and Soludo Get Campaign Roles

The APC’s revised campaign council includes Wike, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, despite their different party affiliations.

Wike remains in the PDP, Adeleke secured his re-election under the Accord Party, while Soludo belongs to the All Progressives Grand Alliance.

Under the new arrangement, Wike will coordinate campaign activities in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory. Adeleke will oversee Osun State, while Soludo will coordinate activities in Anambra State.

The expanded council is expected to coordinate mobilisation and other campaign activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Political Alliances Take Centre Stage Ahead of 2027

Wike’s appointment highlights the political alliances developing ahead of the next general election, as Tinubu’s supporters seek to bring together politicians across party lines.

However, cooperation over the presidential election does not necessarily mean that the politicians involved have agreed to support one another’s parties in governorship and legislative contests.

The arrangement has also raised questions about how opposition politicians supporting Tinubu will balance their party loyalties with their roles in the APC-led campaign structure.

With preparations for the 2027 election gathering momentum, the extent of cooperation between the ruling party and politicians from other parties is likely to remain a major subject of political discussion.
