The Presidency has dismissed reports suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s current vacation is connected to proceedings involving Nigeria in the United States.
The clarification was issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who described the claims as misleading and urged the public to disregard the speculation.
According to the Presidency, Tinubu’s trip is strictly a private vacation and has no connection with any legal or political proceedings taking place in the United States.
The clarification followed reports and social media claims linking the President’s absence from Nigeria to developments surrounding proceedings in the US.
Onanuga stressed that there was no basis for suggesting that the President travelled to the United States to address or avoid any matter connected to the proceedings.
He explained that Tinubu’s vacation had been planned independently and should not be interpreted as a response to events taking place in the United States.
The Presidency also criticised attempts to link routine presidential travel with unrelated political developments, saying such narratives could create unnecessary confusion among members of the public.
Tinubu has continued to carry out his responsibilities as President while on the break, with relevant government officials attending to official matters in the country.
The Presidency urged Nigerians to rely on verified information concerning the President’s activities and avoid giving credibility to unconfirmed claims circulating online.
It reiterated that Tinubu’s vacation and the US proceedings are separate developments with no connection between them.
