A Nigerian student has sparked conversations online after recounting an unpleasant experience at a relative’s house during the Christmas celebration.
The student, who could not travel home from university for the festive season, reportedly decided to spend the period with a family member.
However, what was expected to be a comfortable stay allegedly turned into a disappointing experience after the family slaughtered a goat for Christmas.
According to the student, while other members of the household appeared to enjoy better portions of meat, the food served to them contained mostly bones.
Feeling unfairly treated, the student reportedly decided against confronting the relative and instead took a different approach.
Recounting the incident, the student said, “I just vex, go order food with turkey dey chop am for their parlour.”
The student’s decision to order a separate meal and eat it in the family’s parlour was apparently a way of expressing displeasure over the treatment received.
The identity of the relative and the location where the incident occurred were not disclosed.
Student’s Experience Sparks Conversation About Family Hospitality
The account has drawn attention to the challenges some students face when spending festive periods with relatives because they cannot afford to travel home or have other difficulties.
Although staying with family members can provide support and a sense of belonging, experiences such as the one described can leave guests feeling unwelcome or treated differently from other members of the household.
The incident has also highlighted the importance of fairness, consideration and hospitality when sharing food, particularly during celebrations when families are expected to come together.
However, it remains unclear whether the relative deliberately gave the student the less desirable portions or whether the matter was eventually discussed between them.
