The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has opened a fresh opportunity for applicants disqualified during its recent recruitment exercise to have their complaints reviewed, following protests by candidates who were prevented from proceeding to the training college.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, ordered a case-by-case reassessment after meeting with some of the aggrieved applicants.
The Service disclosed that 397 applicants had been flagged for issues relating to substance use, physical fitness, medical records, age verification and submitted documents.
According to the NCS, the recruitment process involves several stages of verification, including credential checks, physical fitness and endurance tests, medical examinations, age verification and drug screening.
The Service explained that appearing on the final shortlist does not automatically guarantee employment, as every candidate must meet all the required standards before being admitted into the training college.
It also stressed that the fresh review should not be interpreted as an automatic reinstatement of disqualified applicants or a relaxation of recruitment requirements.
Candidates who believe they were unfairly disqualified have been directed to submit their details and complaints through the designated email address, helpdesk@customs.gov.ng, for consideration.
The Service said applicants whose cases are accepted for reconsideration would undergo fresh screening. It warned that anyone found to have engaged in certificate fraud or other criminal conduct could be referred to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.
The Customs Service urged affected candidates to provide accurate information and use the official complaint channel, assuring the public that genuine grievances would receive attention.
The development comes amid concerns over the recruitment process, with some candidates expressing frustration after appearing on the shortlist but failing to receive invitations to proceed to training.
The Service maintained that it would uphold transparency and fairness while ensuring that only applicants who satisfy the prescribed requirements are recruited.
