Social commentator Solomon Buchi has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) following controversy surrounding the distribution of luxury Toyota Prado SUVs to selected party youth leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Buchi expressed his displeasure in a viral video, questioning the party’s spending priorities at a time when many Nigerians are struggling with rising food prices, inflation and the high cost of living.

“If you vote APC in the coming elections, you are a fool,” he said, urging Nigerians to reconsider their political choices ahead of the next general election.

Buchi Questions Government Priorities

The controversy followed a social media post by APC National Youth Leader Dayo Israel, who shared footage of brand-new 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUVs presented to selected youth leaders to support election mobilisation activities.

Israel subsequently deleted the post after it attracted widespread criticism online.

In the original post, he reportedly thanked First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for her continued support for the party’s youth structure and expressed confidence in the APC’s grassroots mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 polls.

Reacting to the development, Buchi questioned the justification for providing expensive vehicles for political activities while ordinary Nigerians continue to face economic difficulties.

He argued that the resources involved could have been directed towards essential public services, particularly healthcare, where hospitals require better equipment and emergency medical facilities.

Debate Over Cost of Vehicles

Buchi estimated that each SUV cost between ₦120 million and ₦125 million, putting the total expenditure for 10 vehicles at between ₦1.2 billion and ₦1.25 billion.

However, the reports surrounding the controversy identified seven SUVs, and the actual purchase price of the vehicles has not been publicly established.

The source of the funding also became a subject of public debate.

Israel later told the International Centre for Investigative Reporting that the vehicles were gifts from unnamed donors and were not purchased with taxpayers’ money or government allocations. He explained that he deleted the post because of public sensitivity surrounding the donation.

Meanwhile, the First Lady had confirmed donating vehicles to the APC youth wing to support grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

The development has continued to generate discussions about political spending, transparency and the priorities of political leaders amid Nigeria’s economic challenges.

As the 2027 elections approach, the controversy highlights growing public scrutiny of how political parties deploy resources and communicate their activities to Nigerians.
