Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has challenged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to a Quranic citation contest following the President’s ongoing spiritual visit to Saudi Arabia.
Melaye issued the challenge on Monday, November 2, in a post on his X account, declaring his readiness to compete with Tinubu in reciting passages from the Quran when the President returns from the lesser Hajj, known as Umrah.
“Now that Alhaji Bola Tinubu is in Umrah. Immediately he comes back, I challenge him to a Quranic citation competition with me. No one can mock God,” Melaye wrote.
The former lawmaker’s challenge comes amid public attention surrounding Tinubu’s religious activities in Saudi Arabia, where the President visited the Holy Ka’abah in Makkah as part of his spiritual journey.
The development has revived discussions about Melaye’s previous criticism of Tinubu’s Quranic recitation abilities, an issue that attracted public reactions during the 2023 presidential election campaign.
It remains to be seen whether the President will respond to Melaye’s latest challenge.
