The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast cloudy conditions, thunderstorms and varying levels of rainfall across different parts of Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday.
The agency issued the forecast in its latest weather outlook released in Abuja on Sunday and advised residents to take precautions during periods of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
For the northern region, NiMet predicted thunderstorms with moderate rainfall in parts of Adamawa, Kebbi and Taraba on Monday morning. More areas across the region were expected to experience thunderstorms and moderate rain later in the day.
In the North-Central region, the agency forecast thunderstorms accompanied by light rain over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Plateau and Benue states, as well as Kogi, Nasarawa and Kwara during the morning period. Moderate rainfall was expected across several parts of the region later in the day.
Southern states were also expected to experience unsettled weather. NiMet predicted cloudy skies and light rain over parts of Ebonyi, Edo and Delta, with Abia, Cross River, Ondo, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa also likely to record rainfall during the morning hours.
For Tuesday, the agency forecast patches of clouds across the northern region, with thunderstorms and light rain possible in parts of Adamawa, Sokoto and Kebbi. Taraba was also expected to experience thunderstorms and light rain during the morning.
Later on Tuesday, moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms was forecast for parts of Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi.
The North-Central region was expected to remain cloudy in the morning before thunderstorms and moderate rain develop later in the day, while parts of the southern region could experience light morning rain.
NiMet urged members of the public to remain alert to weather updates and take appropriate precautions during periods of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
