The Sokoto State Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have reached an understanding aimed at preventing industrial action in the state’s government-owned universities.

The agreement followed discussions between representatives of the state government and ASUU over issues affecting academic staff and the implementation of the 2025 agreement between the Federal Government and the union.

The engagement was aimed at resolving outstanding concerns through dialogue rather than allowing them to escalate into a strike that could disrupt academic activities across the affected institutions.

The Sokoto State Government reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the concerns raised by the union and maintaining industrial harmony within its universities.

ASUU, on its part, agreed to continue discussions with the government while efforts are made to resolve the issues under contention.

The development is expected to provide stability for students and staff in Sokoto State-owned universities and prevent interruptions to lectures, examinations and other academic programmes.

Both sides stressed the importance of continued engagement and cooperation in addressing labour-related concerns within the university system.
