The Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor, Tayo Ayinde, has led a delegation to Ilaro, Ogun State, to condole with the family of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
Ayinde, who also serves as the Lagos State Ambassador of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, visited the late actor’s widow and other members of the Hassan family on behalf of the organisation.
During the visit, Ayinde described Ogogo as a cultural icon whose decades-long career contributed significantly to the promotion of Yoruba language, identity and values through film and theatre.
He noted that the actor’s influence extended beyond entertainment, particularly through his contribution to the growth and preservation of indigenous-language cinema in Nigeria.
According to Ayinde, Ogogo’s dedication to his craft and his years in the Nigerian film industry earned him a lasting place in the country’s cultural history.
He expressed sympathy to the actor’s widow, children and other members of the family, acknowledging the difficulty of losing a loved one.
Ayinde urged the family to take comfort in the impact Ogogo made during his lifetime, stressing that his body of work would continue to preserve his memory and inspire future generations.
He also prayed for the peaceful repose of the late actor and asked God to grant the family strength and comfort during the period of mourning.
Ogogo died on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after battling stage-four cancer. He was buried in his hometown of Ilaro on August 24 in accordance with Islamic rites.
The condolence delegation included officials and members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Lagos, who joined Ayinde in paying tribute to the late actor.
Ogogo’s death has continued to attract tributes from colleagues, fans and other stakeholders in the entertainment industry, with many recognising his decades-long contribution to Nollywood and Yoruba cultural heritage.
