HBM Nigeria has inaugurated a new high-capacity Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station as part of efforts to expand access to cleaner and more affordable transportation fuel in the country.

The facility is expected to support the growing adoption of CNG-powered vehicles while providing motorists with an alternative to conventional petrol and diesel.

The inauguration reflects the increasing investment in Nigeria’s CNG infrastructure following the Federal Government’s push to promote gas as a cheaper and cleaner energy source for transportation.

Speaking at the commissioning, HBM Nigeria officials highlighted the importance of expanding CNG infrastructure to support the country’s energy transition and reduce the cost burden associated with transportation.

The company said the new station was designed to serve a large number of vehicles and improve the availability of CNG for motorists within its area of operation.

The development is also expected to contribute to the growth of businesses and employment opportunities linked to the emerging CNG value chain.

Nigeria has been accelerating the development of CNG infrastructure as part of efforts to reduce dependence on petrol and provide more affordable fuel options following the removal of the petrol subsidy.

With more filling stations and conversion centres being established across the country, stakeholders in the sector believe wider access to CNG could encourage more motorists and commercial transport operators to switch to gas-powered vehicles.

The inauguration of HBM Nigeria’s high-capacity facility therefore adds to the expanding network of CNG stations supporting Nigeria’s transition towards alternative and more cost-effective energy sources.
