The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has directed manufacturers and distributors to recall alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and other containers with volumes below 200ml.
The directive is part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to control the production, distribution and consumption of alcoholic beverages in the country, particularly products considered easily accessible to young people.
NAFDAC said the affected products must be removed from circulation in line with existing regulatory requirements governing alcoholic beverages.
The agency also directed relevant stakeholders within the supply chain to comply with the recall and ensure that affected products are no longer available for sale to consumers.
The development follows concerns over the availability and consumption of small-volume alcoholic drinks, which health and regulatory authorities have repeatedly identified as a public health concern.
NAFDAC has continued to emphasise the need for manufacturers and distributors to comply with regulations covering the registration, packaging, labelling and marketing of alcoholic beverages.
The agency warned that companies and individuals who fail to comply with the directive could face regulatory sanctions in accordance with the law.
Consumers are also advised to exercise caution when purchasing alcoholic beverages and to avoid products that do not meet established regulatory requirements.
NAFDAC said it would continue to monitor the market and take appropriate enforcement measures to ensure compliance and protect public health.
