The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh, and other religious leaders have called on Nigerian youths to unite and play a greater role in addressing insecurity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The religious leaders made the call while stressing the importance of youth participation in efforts to promote peace, national unity and security across the country.
Okoh urged young Nigerians to reject division along ethnic, religious and political lines, saying the country’s youth population has an important role to play in shaping Nigeria’s future.
He encouraged young people to use their influence positively and resist attempts by individuals or groups to exploit them for activities that could worsen insecurity and social instability.
The CAN president also emphasised the need for greater collaboration among religious organisations, communities, government institutions and young Nigerians in confronting the security challenges facing the country.
Other religious leaders who spoke at the gathering similarly called for unity and peaceful coexistence, urging youths to become agents of peace rather than allowing themselves to be drawn into violence.
They also stressed the importance of responsible political participation ahead of the 2027 elections, encouraging young Nigerians to make informed choices and support candidates based on their programmes and commitment to national development.
The leaders maintained that addressing insecurity requires collective responsibility and sustained cooperation among citizens and government authorities.
They urged Nigerian youths to channel their energy towards education, entrepreneurship, community development and other productive activities that can contribute to a more peaceful and prosperous society.
