Lere Olayinka, a former media aide to ex-Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu will have a smoother path to victory in the 2027 presidential election than he did in 2023.
Olayinka, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, said the political circumstances surrounding the next election would favour Tinubu more than those he faced during the 2023 presidential contest.
He made the remark while speaking about the evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Olayinka, Tinubu has strengthened his political position since taking office, while the opposition remains divided and continues to face internal disagreements.
He argued that the inability of opposition parties to build a united political platform could make it more difficult for them to mount a strong challenge against the President in 2027.
Olayinka also pointed to the movement of politicians between political parties and the emergence of new alliances as factors that could influence the next election.
He maintained that the opposition would need to resolve its internal differences and present a credible alternative if it hoped to defeat the incumbent.
The former aide said the political developments ahead of 2027 would ultimately determine the strength of the various parties, but expressed the view that Tinubu currently enjoys a stronger position than he did before the 2023 election.
He therefore described the 2027 presidential contest as one that could be less difficult for the President, particularly if the opposition fails to achieve meaningful unity before the election.
The development comes shortly after the Federal Government approved an upward review of the remuneration of Armed Forces personnel, with the broader salary adjustment designed to improve the welfare of military personnel serving amid the country’s security challenges.
Security experts have welcomed the review, describing improved remuneration and retirement benefits as important incentives for personnel who operate in high-risk environments.
They have also urged the government to complement the salary and pension adjustments with broader welfare measures, including improved housing, healthcare, transportation and educational support for military families.
