The National Coordinator of the Disciples of Jagaban, Abdulhakeem Adegoke Alawuje, has urged Nigerians to place the interests of the country above political, ethnic and religious considerations as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
Alawuje said Nigerians should approach the coming election with a focus on national unity, peace, stability and long-term development rather than personal or partisan interests.
He argued that the welfare of Nigeria should take precedence over the ambitions of individual politicians, political parties or ethnic and religious groups.
According to him, the country’s political differences should not be allowed to deepen divisions or undermine national progress.
Alawuje also expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term, saying Nigerians should consider allowing the administration more time if they believe its reforms and policies deserve to continue.
He stressed, however, that supporting Tinubu should not amount to blind loyalty or prevent citizens from questioning government decisions and demanding accountability.
Rather, he called for what he described as responsible political judgment, urging voters to assess the benefits of continuity alongside the possible consequences of another major political transition.
Alawuje maintained that the 2027 election should be approached as an opportunity to determine what would best serve Nigeria’s long-term interests.
He urged politicians and their supporters to avoid rhetoric capable of worsening ethnic, religious or political tensions, stressing that national interest should remain at the centre of the electoral process.
