A political development ahead of the 2027 general elections has attracted attention after former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Segun Showunmi was captured dancing following a court ruling that reportedly nullified Atiku Abubakar’s emergence as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate.

Segun Showunmi, a former ally of ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, was reportedly seen dancing in a video that surfaced following the Federal High Court’s decision in Abuja on Thursday.

The court, presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, nullified the processes that produced Atiku as the ADC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election. It also invalidated the emergence of former Senate President David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola as national officers of the party.

The ruling followed a suit filed by Nafiu Bala Gombe, who challenged the process through which the Mark-led leadership assumed control of the ADC.

The judgment also affected the nominations of other ADC candidates for the 2027 general elections.

Showunmi’s reported reaction has drawn attention amid the unfolding political developments, although the specific circumstances surrounding the video and his reason for celebrating remain unclear.

Meanwhile, the ADC has rejected the judgment and vowed to challenge it through the appellate courts.

The ruling represents a significant development in the opposition party’s preparations for the 2027 elections, with its political future now tied to the outcome of further legal proceedings.
