Suspected bandits have attacked Girkau community in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State, with an Independent National Electoral Commission staff member reportedly abducted during the incident.
A resident of the community was also reportedly killed in the attack, which occurred on Thursday morning.
However, the Sokoto State Police Command has yet to confirm the reported death or abduction.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ahmed Rufai, said the police were aware of the incident but were still working to establish what happened and verify the casualty figures.
He said the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area would be contacted to obtain further information and determine whether anyone was killed or taken away.
The reported victim of the abduction was identified as an INEC staff member, while another resident was said to have been killed during the attack.
Details surrounding the incident, including the circumstances of the reported abduction and the identity of the alleged victim who died, remained unclear at the time of reporting.
The incident adds to continuing security concerns in rural communities across Sokoto State, where attacks and abductions by armed groups have remained a major challenge.
