The Federal Government has assured parents and guardians that adequate security arrangements have been put in place to protect students as Federal Government Colleges, popularly known as Unity Schools, prepare to resume on Monday.
The assurance comes amid concerns over the safety of students in boarding schools following recent security challenges and attacks on educational institutions in parts of the country.
The government said the protection of students remains a priority and that relevant security agencies are working with school authorities to maintain a safe environment for learning.
Parents have consequently been encouraged to allow their children to return to school with confidence, as measures have been strengthened to prevent security threats and ensure the smooth continuation of academic activities.
The Federal Ministry of Education has continued to engage stakeholders on the security of Unity Schools, particularly in areas considered vulnerable to attacks.
The government’s position is that students should not be denied access to education because of insecurity, while efforts are simultaneously being made to address the threats confronting schools.
The planned resumption follows measures taken by the authorities to reinforce security around affected schools and restore confidence among parents, students and school administrators.
Security agencies are expected to maintain surveillance and other protective measures around the institutions as students return for the new academic session.
The Federal Government also reiterated its commitment to working with state authorities, security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure that schools remain safe spaces for students and teachers.
With the Monday resumption date approaching, parents have been urged to cooperate with school management and security personnel while remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
