Applications are open for the 2027 Yenching Academy Scholarship at Peking University in China, offering outstanding young scholars an opportunity to pursue a fully funded interdisciplinary Master’s degree focused on China and its role in the world.
The programme brings together students from different countries and academic backgrounds to study China from an interdisciplinary perspective while developing a deeper understanding of the country’s culture, society, economy and global connections.
Selected scholars will pursue a Master of Arts degree in China Studies and can specialise in one of several research areas, including Economics and Management, Politics and International Relations, Law and Society, Philosophy and Religion, History and Archaeology, and Literature and Culture.
What the Scholarship Covers
The Yenching Academy scholarship provides comprehensive financial support for selected international scholars.
The funding covers tuition fees, accommodation and meals, round-trip travel to and from Beijing, as well as a monthly stipend to support living expenses.
Scholars will also have access to a range of academic activities, seminars, conferences and opportunities to engage with scholars and professionals from different parts of the world.
The programme is designed to encourage international students to develop their own perspectives on China while building cross-cultural networks that can continue beyond their studies.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be international students who are eligible to study in China and must meet the academic requirements of Yenching Academy.
Candidates should have an outstanding academic record and demonstrate leadership potential, extracurricular involvement and an interest in interdisciplinary study.
Applicants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree or be currently enrolled in a degree programme that will be completed before the start of the Yenching Academy programme.
Candidates are generally expected to be no older than 28 years of age as of August 31, 2027. For applicants who are currently completing a Master’s degree, the age limit may be extended to 30.
Applicants whose previous degree was not taught entirely in English may also need to provide evidence of English-language proficiency in accordance with the programme’s requirements.
Application Process
Applicants are required to submit an online application together with academic transcripts, degree certificates or proof of expected graduation, a personal statement, a research proposal and other required supporting documents.
They may also be asked to provide evidence of leadership experience, extracurricular activities and relevant achievements.
The selection process is competitive and considers applicants’ academic excellence, leadership potential, research interests and ability to contribute to the diverse Yenching Academy community.
The programme is expected to begin in 2027, with successful scholars studying at Peking University in Beijing.
