United States President Donald Trump has renewed his threat to launch further military strikes against Iran, warning that Washington may eventually have to take more aggressive action against Tehran.
Trump made the remarks on Sunday, November 1, during a campaign rally in Iowa, ahead of the US midterm elections scheduled for November 3.
“The only reason why I’m not finished with Iran is I want to be nice. I want to try and save all those lives if I can. But at some point we’re going to have to give them the hammer,” the President told supporters.
His comments signal the possibility of renewed military action despite ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing another escalation in the conflict.
Trump had earlier indicated that the United States still needed to deal with one or two remaining targets in Iran, including a suspected underground nuclear facility known as Pickaxe Mountain.
The President also reportedly discussed Iran during a recent telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, amid speculation over whether Washington would resume strikes after the American elections.
Iran warns of a prolonged conflict
Iran has responded to the threats by warning that any renewed confrontation with the United States could last longer than the previous round of fighting.
Iranian army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia said Washington would not be able to dictate the timing or conditions under which a future conflict would end.
Iranian officials have also warned that any military escalation could extend beyond a limited battlefield, raising fears of wider regional instability.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has maintained that Tehran remains open to diplomacy while preparing to defend itself against further attacks.
Qatar has also been involved in diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing the situation from deteriorating further.
Global concerns grow over possible escalation
The latest exchange of threats has heightened concerns among regional governments and international observers, particularly because renewed fighting could threaten energy infrastructure and shipping routes in the Persian Gulf.
The Strait of Hormuz, a vital passage for global oil and gas supplies, remains a major concern given its importance to international energy markets.
While Trump has suggested that military action remains an option, the timing and scale of any possible operation have not been confirmed.
For now, diplomatic efforts continue alongside increasingly forceful statements from Washington and Tehran, leaving the prospect of renewed conflict uncertain.
