Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that Senate President Godswill Akpabio contacted him during the Osun State governorship election and asked him to delete a social media post concerning the election.
Davido made the disclosure while speaking about the August 15 governorship election, in which his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, secured a second term as governor of Osun State.
According to the singer, he became concerned during the collation of results after the uploading of results from polling units reportedly stopped for several hours.
Davido said he had earlier posted on X, alleging that Akpabio had contacted the collation centre and called for the process to be stopped. He later claimed that he received calls asking him to remove the post.
The singer said he refused to delete the tweet, explaining that he would wait until the Independent National Electoral Commission officially announced the results.
Davido also claimed that billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote contacted him over his election-related posts. These claims have been attributed to Davido and were made during his interview; they do not, by themselves, establish that the alleged requests occurred.
The musician had been actively involved in supporting his uncle during the election and had earlier participated in campaigns encouraging voters to maintain peace throughout the electoral process.
His latest comments have drawn attention because of his direct involvement in the election and his public commentary during the collation of results.
