The All Progressives Congress won four of the five legislative seats contested in Saturday’s bye-elections across Delta, Kano, Bauchi and Gombe states, while the Allied Peoples Movement secured the remaining seat in Bauchi.

The elections, conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission on September 19, involved one House of Representatives seat and four State House of Assembly constituencies.

In Gombe State, APC candidate Usman Maijama’a Kallamu won the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency seat with 41,121 votes. The election was held to fill the vacancy created by the death of the former lawmaker, Yaya Bauchi Tongo.

INEC recorded 47,301 votes cast, with 46,551 declared valid and 750 rejected. The Labour Party came second with 3,553 votes, while the APM polled 872.

In Kano State, APC candidate Husseini Datti emerged victorious in the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency bye-election with 22,890 votes. The PRP recorded 270 votes, while the PDP scored 180.

The APC also won the Disina State Constituency seat in Bauchi State. Its candidate, Yakubu Ali, polled 5,846 votes to defeat the APM candidate, who received 5,225 votes.

However, the APM secured the Sakwa State Constituency seat in Bauchi, where its candidate, Adamu Yakubu, won with 8,515 votes against the APC candidate’s 3,771 votes.

In Delta State, APC candidate Ator Okolosi won the Udu State Constituency election with 8,724 votes. His closest rival, PDP candidate George Orugbo, scored 212 votes, while APM candidate Esther Omovie received 33 votes.

Following the results, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda congratulated the party’s four successful candidates and commended INEC, security agencies and other stakeholders involved in the elections.

He described the victories as a call to service and urged the newly elected lawmakers to remain committed to representing their constituents.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo also commented on the results, noting that APC’s victories occurred across the North-West, North-East and South-South regions. He argued that the geographical spread of the results was relevant to the political discussions ahead of the 2027 general election.

The results were also acknowledged by the Presidency, which confirmed that APC won four of the five seats while APM took the Sakwa constituency in Bauchi.
