Lecturers at the Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa, have threatened to embark on an industrial strike over unresolved welfare concerns and unpaid allowances, while demanding a monthly subvention of ₦100 million from the state government.
The lecturers, under the umbrella of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), said the institution’s current financial situation was affecting staff welfare and the effective delivery of academic activities.
The union reportedly raised concerns over outstanding allowances and other entitlements, warning that continued failure to address the issues could force its members to withdraw their services.
ASUP is also demanding that the Ogun State Government increase its financial support to the institution through a monthly subvention of ₦100 million.
According to the lecturers, improved funding is necessary to enable the institution to meet its financial obligations, maintain academic standards and provide a conducive teaching and learning environment.
Union Calls for Urgent Government Intervention
The lecturers maintained that staff welfare should not be neglected, insisting that outstanding payments and other employment-related concerns must be resolved to prevent an escalation of the dispute.
They urged the state government and the institution’s management to engage the union and reach an agreement before the situation disrupts academic activities.
The threatened strike could affect students and the institution’s academic calendar if the disagreement remains unresolved.
The development has placed pressure on the Ogun State Government to intervene and address the lecturers’ demands to prevent another disruption in the state’s tertiary education sector.
