After years of waiting for their outstanding entitlements, former Nigeria Airways workers have received fresh attention from the Federal Government, with an ex-Transport Minister praising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the release of ₦18 billion to settle part of the workers’ claims.
Former Minister of Transport, Rear Admiral Festus Porbeni (retd.), commended Tinubu for prioritising the payment to the former workers of the defunct national carrier.
Porbeni described the development as an important step towards addressing the long-standing financial obligations owed to the affected workers.
The former minister said the payment demonstrated the administration’s commitment to resolving issues that had remained unsettled for years.
The former Nigeria Airways employees have endured a prolonged wait for their outstanding entitlements following the liquidation of the airline.
Porbeni’s commendation comes as the Federal Government continues efforts to settle verified obligations inherited from previous administrations.
The ₦18 billion payment is expected to provide relief to beneficiaries who have spent years seeking the settlement of their outstanding dues.
The development also highlights the government’s ongoing efforts to address legacy liabilities involving former public-sector workers.
