Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has challenged Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) if he intends to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Lawal made the remarks during an interview with Channels Television’s Inside Sources on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The governor said Wike could not simultaneously support Tinubu at the presidential level while backing candidates of other political parties in other elections.
According to Lawal, the minister should either align fully with the APC or withdraw from the Rainbow Coalition, the cross-party platform associated with him.
He said the position of APC governors remained unchanged despite Wike’s argument that he could support Tinubu without becoming an APC member.
The dispute comes amid growing political tensions over how support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election should be organised, particularly between APC governors and Wike’s cross-party political network.
Wike has previously maintained that he does not need to join the APC or hold a formal position in Tinubu’s campaign council to work for the President’s re-election.
