The Nigerian Navy has cautioned members of the public against fake recruitment notices circulating on social media, claiming to announce the commencement of its Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) Course 30.

The warning was issued on Tuesday by the Director of Naval Information, Captain Abi Folorunsho, who said the recruitment notices were not authorised by the Nigerian Navy.

According to Folorunsho, the fake notices contain purported vacancies in areas including medicine, engineering, law, information and communication technology, among others.

He stressed that the Navy had not commenced its DSSC recruitment exercise.

Folorunsho urged prospective applicants to disregard the circulating notices and rely only on information published through the Navy’s official communication channels.

He said the genuine DSSC recruitment announcement, when released, would be published on the official Nigerian Navy website and verified social media platforms.

The warning comes shortly after the Navy announced its 2026 Batch 39 recruitment exercise for the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School.

The Batch 39 recruitment is scheduled to run from October 2 to October 31, 2026, with eligible candidates expected to apply through the Navy’s official recruitment portal.

The Navy also emphasised that the recruitment process is free and warned applicants against paying individuals who claim they can secure recruitment slots.

It stated that applicants for the Batch 39 exercise must be Nigerian citizens by birth, have a National Identification Number and satisfy the stipulated educational, age, physical and medical requirements.

The Navy clarified that the Basic Training School recruitment is separate from the DSSC exercise currently being falsely advertised online.

The public has therefore been advised to verify recruitment information through official Navy channels before taking any action or making payments.
