The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Nollywood actor Chijioke “Cjay” Nwokafor.
News of the actor’s death was announced by his colleague, actress Nkechi Blessing, who shared emotional videos and memories of the late actor on social media.
What made the loss even more difficult for Blessing was how unexpected it was. She said she spoke with Cjay at about 8 a.m. on Wednesday, only to learn of his death a few hours later.
“Cjay Nwoke Oma, so this is really the end?” she wrote in an emotional tribute, recalling that they still had plans together.
Movie Release Cancelled in His Honour
Cjay was part of the cast of Nkechi Blessing’s movie Egusi Ogbono, which was scheduled for release at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
Following confirmation of his death from a hospital, Blessing cancelled the movie’s release as a mark of respect for her late colleague.
Other members of the entertainment industry have also reacted to the news, expressing shock and mourning the actor.
Actor Charles Born, for instance, said he had planned to visit Cjay at the clinic before learning that he had died.
