The African Democratic Congress governorship candidate in Abia State, Kalu Kalu, has challenged Governor Alex Otti to identify a single state government project executed in Ohafia Local Government Area, saying he would withdraw from the 2027 governorship race if one is produced.
Kalu, who is from Ohafia, issued the challenge during an interview on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Friday.
He claimed that Ohafia Local Government had received more than ₦16 billion in allocations over the past three and a half years, but alleged that residents had yet to see a corresponding project carried out by the state government.
‘Show me one project’
Kalu called on the governor and his representatives to identify any completed project undertaken by the Otti administration in the local government.
He said he was prepared to abandon his governorship ambition if even one such project could be identified.
The ADC candidate also alleged that Ohafia had been without electricity for nearly 10 years, adding that the situation had contributed to difficulties faced by residents.
Kalu outlines his plans
Speaking about what he would do if elected governor, Kalu said his administration would prioritize creating opportunities for young people and restoring their confidence in building their futures within Abia.
He said his goal would be to create conditions that would encourage young people to remain in the state rather than leave in search of opportunities elsewhere.
Kalu’s comments come as political parties and candidates intensify preparations for the 2027 Abia governorship election, with candidates increasingly highlighting infrastructure, electricity, employment and development as key campaign issues.
The claims about projects and allocations in Ohafia were made by Kalu during the interview and have not, in the report, been independently verified.
