Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has called on the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to intensify efforts to tackle the circulation of fake and potentially harmful products in Nigeria.

Kadiri raised the concern in a video shared on her Instagram page, warning that Nigerians could unknowingly purchase products that are poorly manufactured, contaminated or counterfeit.

The actress said the situation was particularly worrying when it involved medicines, noting that people who depend on pharmacies for treatment could be exposed to serious risks if they receive fake drugs.

She also expressed concern over reports linking some children’s health problems to allegedly fake products, while recounting her own experience with garlic she purchased that reportedly changed colour after being blended.

According to her, the problem goes beyond consumers simply making poor purchasing choices, arguing that counterfeit products are also being produced and distributed within communities for profit.

Kadiri urged Nigerians to speak out whenever they encounter suspected fake products and called on NAFDAC to take stronger action to protect public health.

She stressed that the issue requires collective responsibility, warning that anyone could potentially become a victim of counterfeit products.
