Eight members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing worsening insecurity, alleged injustice and prolonged non-payment of their salaries and allowances.

The lawmakers announced their decision in separate resignation letters dated October 4, adding another twist to the political realignments taking place in Zamfara ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Those who resigned include Aliyu Ango Kagara, representing Talata Mafara South; Ibrahim Tukur Bakura of Bakura; Faruk Musa Dosara of Maradun I; Bashir Abubakar Masama of Bukkuyum North; Muktaru Nasiru Kaura of Kaura North; Nasiru Abdullahi of Maru North; Bashar Bello of Bungudu West; and Bashar Aliyu of Gummi I.

Speaking on behalf of the lawmakers, Kagara said the security situation in rural parts of the state had deteriorated despite concerns previously raised by members of the Assembly.

He also alleged that the lawmakers had gone for 32 months without receiving their salaries, allowances and other entitlements**, describing the situation as unacceptable.

The lawmakers further accused the APC of failing to adequately address issues affecting their constituents, particularly insecurity and the welfare of residents in rural communities.

However, the Zamfara chapter of the APC said it had not formally received the lawmakers’ resignation letters.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Danmadamin Birnin Magaji, said the APC had only seen the documents circulating on social media and was waiting for official communication through the appropriate party structures.

The lawmakers have also yet to announce which political platform they intend to join.

Their departure is expected to further shape the political calculations in Zamfara as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
