The management of Gamji College of Health Technology, Sokoto, has dismissed reports that 18 of its students were abducted by suspected terrorists while travelling to Oyo State.

In a statement issued by the college’s Registrar, Bello Abdulrahman, the institution described the report as false and misleading, insisting that none of its students had been kidnapped.

The clarification followed a report alleging that the students were travelling in a chartered vehicle when they were attacked, with the driver reportedly killed and the students taken away.

However, the college said the account did not reflect what actually happened and assured the public that all its students were safe.

The Sokoto State Government also backed the college’s position, stating that no student of Gamji College of Health Technology was abducted.

According to the state government, the person reportedly kidnapped was Halima Sokeni, a former student of Gamji College of Nursing Sciences, who graduated as a midwife in September.

The government said Sokeni was travelling home on October 1 when she and other passengers were reportedly abducted in Niger State.

The college has therefore urged the public to disregard reports claiming that 18 of its students were kidnapped, stressing that its students remain safe and have continued with their academic and professional activities.
