A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Buba Galadima, has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is offering financial incentives and vehicles to some political candidates in an attempt to persuade them to withdraw from the 2027 general election.

Galadima made the allegation during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme, where he claimed that candidates at both state and federal levels were being approached with large sums of money to give up their tickets in favour of APC candidates.

₦200m and Car Allegedly Offered to Reps Candidates

According to Galadima, members of State Houses of Assembly who agree to step aside are allegedly being offered ₦50 million, while candidates seeking seats in the House of Representatives are allegedly being offered ₦200 million and a car.

“Every member of the House of Assembly who agrees to forfeit his ticket for the APC candidate is currently being given N50 million, and members of the House of Representatives will be given N200 million with a car,” Galadima alleged.

He further claimed that some candidates had already written resignation letters and collected the alleged payments.

Galadima Makes Further Claim

The NDC chieftain also alleged that a woman from Zamfara State was coordinating the distribution of the money from a hotel in Abuja.

Galadima claimed the woman had recently met with APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, and allegedly showed him the names of candidates who had withdrawn from the race.

He did not, however, provide publicly verifiable evidence during the interview to substantiate the allegations or identify the candidates he claimed had received the alleged payments.

APC Yet to Respond to Latest Allegation

The allegation comes amid increased political activity and realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with politicians switching parties and aspirants adjusting their strategies ahead of the polls.

The APC has previously maintained that political movements into the party are voluntary. However, as of the latest reports reviewed, the party and its national chairman had not publicly responded to Galadima’s latest specific allegation concerning the alleged ₦50 million and ₦200 million offers.

The claims are therefore yet to be independently established.

2027 Politics Intensifies

With the 2027 general elections approaching, political parties are stepping up efforts to secure candidates, build alliances and strengthen their positions across constituencies.

Galadima’s allegation adds to the growing political debate over the methods being used by parties to attract candidates and consolidate their electoral structures ahead of the elections.
