The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced discussions with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the omission of some of its candidates from the commission’s final list for the 2027 governorship elections.

The development has raised concerns among party leaders and affected aspirants, whose participation in the forthcoming elections could be affected by their absence from the published list.

The PDP said it was taking the matter seriously and was working towards resolving the issue in accordance with existing electoral laws and guidelines.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, disclosed that the leadership was engaging with INEC to address the omissions and ensure that legitimate concerns were properly considered.

According to the party, further updates would be provided as discussions with the electoral commission progressed.

PDP Appeals for Calm Among Supporters

The opposition party has urged affected candidates, members and supporters to remain calm while efforts to resolve the situation continue.

The PDP also cautioned its members against making statements or taking actions that could undermine the ongoing discussions with INEC.

The party maintained that it remained committed to ensuring that all legitimate grievances arising from the omissions were addressed through the appropriate channels.

Missing Names Raise Concerns Ahead of 2027 Elections

INEC’s publication of the final list of governorship candidates has generated reactions from political parties whose nominees were not included.

The affected candidates now face uncertainty as political parties prepare for the 2027 electoral contest.

The PDP’s engagement with INEC is aimed at finding a resolution within the framework of the law, although the outcome of the discussions remains to be seen.

As preparations for the elections continue, attention will be focused on whether the commission will clarify the circumstances surrounding the missing names and what steps may be taken to address the concerns raised by the affected parties.

The development highlights the importance of accurate candidate records and compliance with electoral requirements as Nigeria moves towards the 2027 general elections.
