American actor RJ Mitte, best known for portraying Walter White Jr. in the hit television series Breaking Bad, has died at the age of 34.
Mitte’s death was confirmed on Monday, October 12, 2026, in a statement released by his talent management agency. He died in Brownsville, Texas, with authorities saying an autopsy would be conducted.
The actor gained international recognition for playing Walter White Jr., also known as Flynn, the son of Bryan Cranston’s character, Walter White, in the acclaimed crime drama that aired from 2008 to 2013.
Mitte’s performance stood out partly because he drew on his personal experience living with cerebral palsy, the same condition portrayed by his character in the series. Diagnosed at the age of three, he used his platform to challenge stereotypes and promote greater representation of people with disabilities in the entertainment industry.
Beyond Breaking Bad, Mitte featured in productions including Switched at Birth, The Oak Room and Triumph, in which he played a high school wrestler with cerebral palsy.
He also became an advocate for disability rights, serving as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, as well as leading the Mitte Foundation, which supports charitable initiatives and greater inclusion for people with disabilities.
Following news of his death, Bryan Cranston, who played his on-screen father, paid an emotional tribute to the actor, describing the loss as devastating and praising his talent, determination and advocacy for performers with disabilities.
Cranston revealed that the pair had exchanged messages only weeks before Mitte’s death while discussing plans to meet for lunch.
Mitte’s passing has prompted tributes from fans and members of the entertainment community, who have remembered him not only for his memorable television role but also for his efforts to improve the visibility and opportunities available to people living with disabilities.
