Veteran Nigerian comedian and actor Okey Bakassi has dismissed reports claiming that his marriage has collapsed, describing the allegations as false and disrespectful to his family.
The entertainer, whose real name is Okechukwu Onyegbule, reacted after a viral social media post alleged that his wife had requested a divorce following years of separation.
The report claimed that Bakassi had spent 15 years working in Nigeria and sending money abroad to support his wife and children while his wife pursued a nursing career in the United States.
However, the comedian firmly rejected the claims, explaining that the story was fabricated and had caused unnecessary concern among friends, relatives and fans who contacted him for clarification.
In a video message shared on social media, Bakassi reaffirmed that his marriage remained intact, revealing that he and his wife had recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in Canada.
He also dismissed claims about his wife’s occupation and residence, clarifying that she does not live in the United States and is not a nurse, contrary to what the viral report alleged.
The actor expressed disappointment with those responsible for circulating the story, accusing them of spreading false information in a bid to attract attention and generate online engagement.
He urged his family, friends and supporters to disregard the report and called on social media users to report the account responsible for publishing the allegations.
Bakassi further stressed that his wife and children remained the most important people in his life, insisting that his family was united despite the online speculation.
The incident has once again raised concerns about the spread of fabricated celebrity stories on social media, particularly claims involving people’s marriages and private lives.
