Super Falcons interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen is determined to guide Nigeria to another victory over Comoros as the team prepares for the return leg of their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying tie.
Nigeria head into Tuesday’s encounter at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, with a 2-0 advantage from the first leg, thanks to second-half goals from Michelle Alozie and Uchenna Kanu.
The Super Falcons dominated much of Friday’s match but struggled to find the breakthrough before Alozie opened the scoring in the 48th minute. Kanu subsequently doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 60th minute with a header from a corner kick.
Despite the advantage, Eguavoen is keen for his players to maintain their focus and produce another strong performance to secure qualification for the next round.
The coach could also use the encounter to assess other members of the squad, with several players hoping to earn opportunities in the starting line-up.
Comoros face a difficult task as they attempt to overturn the two-goal deficit, although Nigeria will be wary of allowing their opponents back into the contest.
The Super Falcons are seeking to qualify for a second consecutive Olympic Games after ending a 16-year absence from the women’s football tournament at Paris 2024.
If Nigeria progress, they are scheduled to face Morocco in the next stage of the African qualifying series, which will determine the continent’s representatives at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
